Tell us about your container garden of the small space

Once upon a time, South California was full of yards with gardens. Food cultivation was a fact for many families, especially during tilt times, such as great depression and World War II.

In these days, however, the need for affordable houses has transferred many socal residents to attached houses, condominiums and apartments, where the “patio” is often nothing more than a small patio, balcony or terrace.

Although several circumstances have eliminated many of our traditional courtyards, the garden yearning remains. And many people have become creative with the containers, the cultivation of tomatoes and limits in pots or supported by lattice, strawberries in hanging baskets and even wild flowers in wide containers.

Barbara Chung was so inspired by the Native California plants that she created a vibrant habitat garden with about 200 plants mostly native in her small house in Santa Monica despite the warnings that they would not survive. “I decided that I couldn't be well,” he said. “And I would find a way that native plants thrive in containers.”

I know there are more creative gardeners, creating small farms or habitat gardens in their courtyards, and I want to share their stories.

Complete the following form that describes your small space garden, and I can contact it later this spring for a story. Thanks for sharing.
