Stranger stops woman on the street to criticize her outfit, but the Internet takes his side

One woman said she received unexpected and unwanted fashion criticism on the streets of New York City.

“I'm not even kidding, this just happened to me right now,” Steph, a TikTok lifestyle creator, exclaimed in her June 23 video that has already garnered more than eight million views. Nervous and slightly offended, the girl from New York recounted the random interaction she had experienced a few minutes earlier.

She continued, “This guy stopped me in the middle of the street and said, 'Listen, I need to tell you this, but your shoes don't match your outfit.'”

Dressed in a classic white babydoll dress, a black crossbody bag, and black loafers with gold accents, Steph assumed the man was joking.

“I was like, 'Haha, what?' And he said, 'No, no, no, I'm serious. The shoes are too dressy and your outfit is too casual,'” he explained. The two were standing in the middle of a busy street, looking at each other before Steph responded.

She then questioned his motives and asked him why he was talking to her in the first place. “She told me, 'I don't know, sometimes I just like to give advice,'” Steph admitted.

“We just looked into each other's eyes for like a full 10 seconds,” he confessed. “I am very disturbed.”

So that people could get a good look at the outfit in question, Steph put down her phone and stepped back. He paired his loafers with black socks and two pigtails.

“And then he just left,” he added, asking his followers for their opinion.

In the comments, viewers joked about the interaction, while others chose to continue with what the man had already said.

“I see what he means,” one individual admitted, while another guessed, “It bothered him so much that he HAD to come to you.”

A third jokingly commented: “Sometimes it takes a stranger to help put life into perspective.”

“No, it wasn't just advice, it was good advice,” said one commenter.

One open-minded viewer assumed, “My guy was trying to back you up and you just attacked him.”

The independent has contacted Steph for comment.
