Sofia Richie has revealed that she and her husband Elliot Grainge are expecting their first child together.
The 25-year-old model shared the big news during a recent interview withFashion, in which she could be seen posing with her hands on her baby bump. Speaking to her publication, she spoke about finding out she was pregnant and explained that she found out she was pregnant “very, very early.”
“I was about four weeks pregnant, I was traveling to Milan for fashion week and I was going to the Prada show. She was making a very quick change in 24 hours and I felt terrible, but I didn't think much of it. “I thought it was jet lag.”
Richie, who got married in April 2023, revealed that he will welcome his son later this year, noting that the newborn will be a Gemini baby. He also revealed the sex of her unborn child: a girl.
According to Richie, after taking his first pregnancy test, he asked his partner to go to CVS and get even more tests done. She recalled talking to her husband on the phone during their trip to the pharmacy, and how he came home and reassured her as they waited together for the results of the pregnancy tests.
“He's such a sweet guy who always wants to protect my emotions and expectations, so he sat me down and said, 'If this is negative, don't be mad,'” she said. “'Our time will come.' When we delivered all three tests at the same time, they were all positive.”
Richie went on to describe how excited she and her partner were when they found out she was pregnant, adding: “He was so emotional and we both cried. “It was crazy, overwhelming and very difficult not to shout it from the rooftops.”
The media personality also explained why she decided to keep the news out of the public eye, noting that her parents and her husband's parents only found out when she was eight weeks pregnant.
“Pregnancy is very scary and you have to protect that space,” she explained. “I didn't realize that there are so many milestones you have to reach and so many tests you have to take. “For me it was very important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”
She also admitted that she has been wearing oversized trench coats to hide her growing baby bump for the past six months. However, now that her pregnancy has been announced, she said that she is excited to show off her different clothes.
“I'm not actually turning to maternity clothes at all, if anything, I'm just going up a size,” she explained. “I'm also not buying a whole new wardrobe for this pregnancy. I bought a few pairs of pants in larger sizes, but I wear my same jackets, sweaters, and trench coats; “I’m about to have some fun with that now that I can spread my wings and fly.”
During the interview, Richie also described how excited she is to have a daughter, explaining that while her baby is “growing pretty quickly,” the due date is still “a little bit up in the air.” She then shared how she and her husband discovered the gender of her son.
“I love YouTubes and TikToks, even before we talk about getting pregnant, gender reveals, so we asked our OB to text my assistant Becca. [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue and one pink,” he added. “She left out the one with the right color inside, and Elliot and I put it together. We both really thought he was a boy, so it was a real shock.”
After noting that her “dream in life” has been to have a daughter, she confirmed that her husband is “very excited” to also have a girl. “I think it's very typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters. He was really sweet. He is very sensitive,” she said.
Richie, whose parents are Lionel Richie and Diane Alexander, got engaged to Grainge in April 2022, after more than a year together. During his recent interview with FashionRichie opened up about her final months of pregnancy and confessed how she has come to “learn more” about the female body than ever in “her entire life.”
“And also what the female body is capable of doing. “Every week brings new things, whether it’s hormonal changes or expansion,” she said. “Our bodies go through a lot and it's very interesting to experience it all.”
