Smriti Mandhana stuns in a Rimzim Dadu metal saree at the BCCI Naman Awards, combining sport and couture in a bold, modern fashion statement.

Smriti Mandhana was designed by Bornali Caldeira.
At the intersection of sport and high fashion, Smriti Mandhana is quietly building a style narrative that feels as imposing as her presence on the field. At the BCCI Naman Awards, where she was honored as Best International Cricketer. The cricketer decided not to go the expected route of traditional special occasion wear. Instead, he got into something much more sculptural and much more striking.
With a custom creation by Rimzim Dadu, Smriti Mandhana's look redefined the very language of the saree. Known for pushing the boundaries of textile innovation, the brand's signature metal saree is made from fine wires woven into a fabric that mimics flowing pleats. The result is a garment that feels both industrial and ethereal: structured, but surprisingly smooth in movement.
Done in a vivid electric blue, the saree made an immediate visual impact. The draped panel wrapped around the body like armor: elegant, protective and undeniably modern. The surface, streaked like lightning through the metallic fabric, carried a kinetic energy, almost echoing the dynamism Mandhana brings to the field.
Styled by Bornali Caldeira, the look was based on thoughtful minimalism. A black belt defined the waist, while a dark underlayer allowed the texture of the sari to remain the focal point. Accessories were kept intentionally sparse, with delicate gemstone earrings and a diamond bracelet that added just enough sparkle without competing with the statement of the outfit.
Smriti shared the photos of her look on Instagram. The post went viral and received more than three million likes. One fan wrote: “Part-time cricketer, full-time internet breaker.” A second user commented: “Generational feud.” A third user said: “Ek hi dil hai, kitni baar jeetogae?”
What makes this moment particularly compelling is his quiet confidence. There's no excess or exaggeration: just a strong silhouette, a bold choice of materials, and a wearer who lets the garment do the talking. With straight hair and understated makeup, Smriti Mandhana lets the saree take center stage. In doing so, it offers a new model for occasion dressing where strength and elegance are not opposites, but allies.
