The month of Shravan is considered one of the most auspicious months according to the Hindu calendar. According to religious scriptures, Shravan is dedicated to Lord Shiva. During this month, people fast and perform special pujas to worship Lord Shiva. This year, the auspicious month will begin on Monday, July 22, 2024. During this holy month, people usually fast and worship Lord Shiva with milk. It is believed that performing these rituals can help alleviate the sufferings of life. A large number of people visit Haridwar to perform the rituals and worship Lord Shiva. Offering pujas in Haridwar is often considered sacred among Hindus.

Famous astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri of Haridwar spoke about the importance of Shravan month in an interview. He explained that the rituals of the month of Shravan can be performed at any pilgrimage site, but offering pujas in Haridwar is more special and sacred. He mentioned that this year, the month of Shravan will begin on Shravan Nakshatra on Monday, July 22. There are five Mondays in the month of Shravan this year and worshiping Lord Shiva on these Mondays is most auspicious. He added that Hariwar has significant importance as Lord Shiva is believed to reside in Haridwar. The name of the place Haridwar comes from Har's dwar which means the gate of Lord Shiva.

In the city of Haridwar, there are many ancient and important pilgrimage sites dedicated to Lord Shiva. Pandit Shridhar Shastri mentioned that worshiping Lord Shiva at these places and performing rituals while chanting mantras is very auspicious. He added that while performing the rituals, milk should be offered to alleviate all the sufferings of life. There are many pilgrimage sites in India where people gather in large numbers to worship Lord Shiva.

Another famous pilgrimage site for performing these rituals is the Taraknath temple, located in the town of Tarakeswar in West Bengal.
