Sheridan Smith reveals her ADHD diagnosis: “A lot of things make sense”


Sheridan Smith revealed that she was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) earlier this year.

ADHD is a medical condition that can affect people's behavior, and ADHD symptoms are typically evident in children from a young age and become clearer in school. In some cases, symptoms may appear in adulthood.

People with ADHD may also have additional problems, such as sleep and anxiety disorders.

Theater and television star Smith, 42, opened up about her diagnosis in an interview with Fashionand acknowledged that it has helped him “make sense of many things” in his life.

The Olivier Award winner said: “I never know what to say and I think too much,” adding that she constantly “overanalyzes” little things, like her son’s school’s “moms WhatsApp group.”

The diagnosis also helped her understand the “background noise in her brain,” she told the outlet.

Smith has a three-year-old son, Billy, with her ex-fiancé Jamie Horn, 33, with whom she split in 2021.

She is set to return to the West End stage this year for the world premiere of the musical. opening night.

The show, based on the 1977 film of the same name, will begin at London's Gielgud Theater next month.

Smith has been cast as the character Myrtle in the production.

Smith last performed on stage in a production of Shirley Valentine at the Duke of York Theater last year.

Another star who received an ADHD diagnosis in his adulthood is comedian Johnny Vegas, who said in 2023 that he “answers a lot of questions about behavioral problems” he has had throughout his life.

Vegas said: “It's that feeling of disorganization and doing basic tasks…everyone has an element of it, I think it's how strong the filter is.”

Other celebrities with ADHD include former love island contestant Dr. Alex George, award-winning singer-songwriter Labrinth and impressionist Rory Bremner.
