Rose McGowan pays tribute to her 'Charmed' co-star Shannen Doherty following her death

Rose McGowan has shared a touching tribute to Shannen Doherty after she died from cancer aged 53.

In the caption, McGowan reflected on her years-long friendship with Doherty, describing her as a “tough, kind-hearted girl” amid her battle with breast cancer.

“Shannen Doherty had a lion’s heart. Passion for the craft is often misinterpreted as a problem. Shannen was passion,” the post begins. “I met her in the 90s and was blown away. Getting to really know her later in life was a beautiful gift. This woman fought to live.

“Shannen knew how to be a star because she was one from childhood. Her work ethic was inspiring to the very end. Shannen’s great love for directing, acting, Holly, her friends, her parents, her dog and her beloved fans was legendary,” McGowan continued. “Our lives had become intertwined in a unique way. We laughed at the dark forces that wanted us to hate each other, instead we chose love and respect.

“A woman with a tender heart like never before. A force of energy that will live forever in hearts. May the angels and God take her to the sacred realm where she will be healthy, young and wild forever,” the post concluded. “Rest now warrior, we will never forget you dear sister.”

Following her roles in the 1988 cult film Heathers and her role as Brenda Walsh for four seasons on the teen drama. Beverly Hills, 90210Doherty was chosen for Delighted — a series about three sisters who are witches. Doherty played Prue Halliwell in the first three seasons of Delightedfrom 1998 to 2001, alongside Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs. She left the show after the third season, leading to the death of her character, and was replaced by McGowan.

She went into remission in 2017, but confirmed in February 2020 that the cancer had returned to stage four. In June 2023, Doherty revealed that her cancer had spread to her brain, just four months before telling her fans that it had also spread to her bones.
