Rihanna hit the streets of New York City wearing $1,100 socks on May 19.
The superstar beauty mogul was photographed walking into the night in an ensemble that combined high-end designer sportswear and an unexpected choice of footwear. Rihanna donned a nylon tracksuit from streetwear brand Awake New York. Her $145 white tapered pants had navy stripes down the outside of each leg, matching the arms of her $225 long-sleeve quarter-zip.
Her accessories—a Yankees baseball cap, black sunglasses, and a blue camouflage Dior saddlebag—contributed to the overall casualness of the look, adding a subtle touch with expensive but toned down items. That said, there was nothing understated about his choice of footwear: a pair of Bottega Veneta sock boots.
At first, second and third glance, the mother of two appeared to be wearing gray thermal socks over white and green striped ones. But would Rihanna really go without shoes to New York? Of course not.
The “Diamonds” artist donned the $1,100 Bottega Domenica boot; a shoe that looks more like knitted socks with foldable ribbed cuffs that transform the shape. On the bottom, the Domenica boots have a wooden sole with black trim.
Rihanna's latest outfit reflects the artist's recent fashion preference: being comfortable.
Speaking with Mel Ottenberg for Interview magazineIn the spring issue, the 36-year-old opened up about how her style mindset has changed since becoming a mother.
“I spend my time dressing the kids to death and then I think, 'What's the most comfortable outfit to wear with them?'” she explained. “'What won't feel uncomfortable on your face or body or make me feel like I can't hold you properly?'”
Rihanna added: “Moms are lazy when it comes to dressing in real life.”
Of course, Rihanna's “lazy” thing is still chic. The singer will wear everything from beaded necklaces instead of a top, belly catsuits, and structured blazers.
Her husband, A$AP Rocky, has worked closely with big names in fashion, specifically Bottega Veneta. The rapper is known for his iconic hairstyle with multiple clips and exaggerated silhouettes.
“I feel very bad next to this man. I feel like, damn, I look like his assistant. I'm going to get on a plane. “We should be in sweats,” Rihanna told Ottenberg.
“He wants to wear a full Bottega suit. I wonder, 'Why do you have to do that to me?'” she confessed.
