Ashish N Soni's collection, The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel, in collaboration with R|Elan™, did not come from drawings or inspiration, but from “fabric”. The Lakme Fashion Week
Speaking to News18 after the exceptional display, Ashish N Soni thanked R|Elan™ for entrusting him with the fabric and his vision for the collection. “I have to give credit to R|Elan™ because they trusted me impeccably. We worked completely as a team. We spoke almost four or five times a week. In fact, I had many developments that they made especially for me. For example, we developed a fabric using R|Elan™ Kooltex and bamboo. Many shirts, the one where the fabrics flowed, were made with that material. And with that level of trust, I was under pressure to deliver. It was an incredible experience for me. I worked with R|Elan™,” says Ashish N Soni.
A monochrome masterpiece
Unlike American filmmaker Wes Anderson's love for color, Ashish N Soni chose black as his canvas for The Soirée at the Grand Budapest Hotel collection. The monochromatic palette formed an opulent narrative on the runway as models exuded elegance and glamor in flowy dresses, tailored suits, dramatic skirts, deconstructed shirts and Ashish's iconic collarless bandhgalas.
When asked about this color palette choice and why he chose black. “I'm going to avoid the obvious. Wes Anderson is known for a lot of color and I said, okay, I'm going to stay away from that. And how about we go austere and think about doing just black? Two things will emerge from this. One, am I a good tailor? And two, how impeccably do I bring delicacy to fabrics? Because any flaw is more noticeable in black than in any other color. So, I accepted that challenge and said I'm going to put my all into it. tailoring prowess in this collection.
The Collection – The evening at the Grand Budapest Hotel
The showcase inspired by the charm of the Grand Budapest Hotel fused opulence with runway precision. “The collection reimagines eveningwear as architecture in motion. For women, sculpted shoulders and cinched waists are softened by draping, creating dramatic, sensual silhouettes. For men, elegant tuxedo-inspired cuts, wide-leg trousers and architectural jackets reinterpret formalwear with a modern twist,” says Ashish.
He adds: “The collection creates a visual symphony that is formal yet effortless, precise yet fluid. Partnering with R|Elan™ allows us to push the boundaries of fabric innovation, creating pieces that empower women and men to move with confidence, freedom and undeniable style.”
