During Ramzan, Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset. The two main meals during the fasting period are Iftar, which is eaten after sunset, and Sehri, which is eaten before sunrise.

Islam's holiest month, Ramzan, is just around the corner. As the Islamic calendar depends on the cycle of the moon, the month of Ramzan changes by about 10 days every year. This year, Ramzan is scheduled to begin on March 11 or 12, depending on the sighting of the new moon.

During this month, Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset. The two main meals during the fasting period are Iftar, which is eaten after sunset, and Sehri, which is eaten before sunrise. Iftar timings also fluctuate every day as they are based on sunset. Iftar times vary significantly in India due to the country's huge geographical variations. Depending on where you live, dawn-to-dusk fasting can last anywhere from 12 to 17 hours.

Muslims in the world's southernmost nations will fast for approximately 12 hours, while those in the world's northernmost nations will fast for 17 hours or more because the number of daylight hours differs around the world. This year, the average fasting period for Muslims in India will be about 14 hours.

After lasting 29 or 30 days, Ramzan is expected to conclude on April 9 and the Eid al-Fitr celebration to begin on April 10, likely with a couple of days of variability.

It is crucial to remember that fasting on Ramzan means abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking and intimate relations during daylight hours to attain God consciousness.
