Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the day of Sawan Purnima.
Certain Rakhis should be avoided as they can bring negative consequences in the life of both the brother and the sister.
Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie rakhi to each other. [a sacred thread] around the wrists of their siblings, symbolising love and prayers for the long life of their siblings. This year, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Monday, 19th August. Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the day of Sawan Purnima. Although it is an auspicious day that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, it is also important to keep in mind the type of Rakhi chosen for the ritual. According to astrologers, certain Rakhis should be avoided as they can bring negative consequences to the life of both the brother and the sister.
The auspicious time to tie a Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan is very crucial as it ensures the positive effects of the ritual. This year, the Bhadra period, during which tying a Rakhi is traditionally considered inauspicious, will begin on Sunday, August 18 at 2:21 pm and end on Monday, August 19 at 1:25 pm. It is recommended to tie the Rakhi only after 1:25 pm on August 19 to avoid the negative influence of Bhadra.
Deoghar astrologers advise against using Rakhis that have black-coloured threads, sharp objects or symbols associated with negativity. Black is often considered an inauspicious colour in many traditions as it is somehow associated with negative energy. Tying a Rakhi with black threads or ornaments can unintentionally attract negative influences. Similarly, Rakhis adorned with sharp objects like blades or pointy symbols can mean harm or aggression, which goes against the protective and nurturing spirit of Raksha Bandhan.
Astrologers advise using silk threads instead of black threads. Rakhis that do not feature images of deities are considered a negative symbol. It is believed that the absence of the image of a deity diminishes the protective and auspicious qualities of the Rakhi. Therefore, it is recommended to choose Rakhis that feature the image of deities as it is a sacred symbol that ensures the well-being of the siblings.
Even Rakhi made of plastic or old and broken ones should never be adorned as they are a negative symbol.
