Lack of sleep can seriously affect bodily functions.
Rajkummar Rao's wife Patralekhaa recently shared that her husband would sometimes go 48 hours without sleep.
People often go to great lengths to fulfil their professional commitments and put their health on the back burner. Rajkummar Rao's wife, actress Patralekhaa, recently revealed that her husband often has sleepless nights. Even though she insists that he prioritise rest, she explained, “He has love and passion for his art from the moment he wakes up till the moment he goes to sleep.”
“There are sleepless nights. Sometimes he doesn’t sleep for 48 hours, no matter what I tell him. Don’t do it, it’s bad for your health. But he doesn’t know how to do anything better,” said the actress during her interview with Fever FM.
In this case, Patralekhaa is absolutely right. Not getting enough sleep on a daily basis can have harmful effects on the body. That is why it is always recommended to sleep between 8 and 9 hours a day, which can have serious consequences. This is what happens when you don't get enough sleep.
Lack of sleep affects bodily functions
Lack of sleep can lead to memory and concentration loss, mood swings, increased anxiety, poor judgment and poor decision-making. It can even weaken the immune system, increasing the chances of cardiovascular diseases. Months ago, a Hyderabad-based neurologist, Dr. Sudhir Kumar, shared a post on his Twitter account X to talk about the effects of sleep deprivation.
In her post, she mentioned that losing an hour of sleep can take up to 4 days to fully recover. Meanwhile, in a reply to one of the netizens, she also suggested the average daily amount of sleep one should get based on their age. Check out her post:
Lack of sleep increases appetite
A poor sleep cycle leads to excessive secretion of a hormone called ghrelin, which triggers hunger. The Indian Express quoted a doctor as saying, “One feels hungry and may overeat. It is imperative to get a good night’s sleep for at least 8-9 hours every day. If you are having trouble sleeping, consult a health professional for guidance. Remember that sleep is not a luxury but a necessity for a healthy life.”
Here's what you can do to get a good night's sleep
Maintaining a fixed bedtime is essential, as it helps to properly regulate the body clock. To signal that the body is winding down, specific nighttime rituals can be performed, such as warm baths, meditation or reading books. The most important thing is to avoid all types of screens just before going to sleep.
