Rachel Lindsay found out that her ex Bryan Abasolo filed for divorce via text message


High school Former student Rachel Lindsay learned “via text message” that her ex Bryan Abasolo had filed for divorce, court documents revealed.

In the June 26 filing obtained by PeopleLindsay, who played the Bachelorette during season 13 of the franchise, claimed that Abasolo informed her via text message that he had filed for divorce on January 2.

The 39-year-old television personality alleged in the filing that she and Abasolo, 44, “had a conversation in [her] kitchen during which he did not mention that he had filed for divorce.” About 30 minutes after leaving the house, according to Lindsay, he sent her a text message informing her that he had filed for divorce that same day.

He reportedly included a screenshot of his text message in the filing, which said Abasolo had texted him at 11:43 a.m. on January 2. “Hey…I just wanted to let you know that I officially filed,” he texted her, according to People. “Hope for?” She answered. Lindsay also stopped sharing her location with Abasolo that same night, according to the screenshot.

Although Lindsay, who met and became engaged to Abasolo during his season of High school In 2017, she knew that she and the chiropractor “were separating and heading towards divorce,” she stated that she was “shocked” when she was informed via text message that he had officially filed.

He explained that their “previous conversations” had been “amicable” and they had decided to divorce in a way that “would not attract media attention.” However, Lindsay alleged that she “tried to talk to Bryan about the divorce to resolve this matter quickly and amicably, but he was not interested.”

“He informed me in very clear terms that everything must go through lawyers. “You have made no effort, reasonable or not, to resolve this matter with me,” the letter reads.

In January, it was reported that Abasolo had filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split and set a separation date of December 31.

“After more than four years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to separate and start over,” Abasolo said in a statement posted to her Instagram that she later deleted. “Sometimes loving yourself and your partner means you have to let go.”

In his statement, he asked for respect for his family and friends as they navigate their next steps.

While Lindsay did not make her own statement on social media about the split, she did later open up about the divorce on her podcast. Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsaydescribing the divorce as a “difficult time.”

“I didn't think I'd be emotional,” she said during the Jan. 5 episode. “First of all, I just want to thank the people who reached out. I'm still trying to respond to people. “You never know how big your circle is until you see all the people who reach out to you and love you.”

“It’s obviously a tough time, if you’ve read the headlines and you’re probably wondering why I would work. But to be honest with you, I need to distract myself from myself and the best way to do that is to do something that I love and enjoy. Greater learning,” She continued.

Although the former Bachelorette didn't go into details, she promised that she will “eventually” share it with her fans, but “now is not the time.” [I’m] “I just try to take it day by day.”

His recent court filing comes after Abasolo requested spousal support and more than $75,000 for his legal fees. Elsewhere in the June 26 document, he stated, “Her requests for spousal support and $75,000 in professional fees are not supported by competent evidence and far exceed his actual marital lifestyle and needs.”

The former couple married in August 2019 after meeting on their season of High school Two years ago. They have no children together.

Lindsay initially competed on season 21 of The Bachelor with the protagonist Nick Viall. She later gained recognition after she was announced as the first black Bachelorette in 2017, which also marked the franchise's first black lead in its multiple series.
