Prince William announces first public engagement since Kate's cancer diagnosis

Prince William has announced his first public engagement since Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis.

The heir to the throne, 41, revealed he would return to work on April 18, this Thursday, to help raise awareness of community and environmental impact organizations in Surrey and west London.

Their first stop will be “Surplus to Supper”, a charity in Sunbury-on-Thames, which aims to close the gap between food waste and poverty.

There you will see how food waste is processed and redistributed to organizations that need it in the community.

This will be followed by a visit to one of the benefiting organisations, a community youth center in west London.

The decision to visit these organizations stems from his commitment to helping the environment as part of his charitable work, which led him to establish the Earthshot Prize in 2020 to highlight innovators in this field.

His return to public life comes amid a difficult time for the Royal Family, as his father, King Charles, and his wife, the Princess of Wales, battle cancer.

As a result, he has been noticeably absent from public life, canceling several engagements this year.

One of the most notable was his last-minute decision to abandon a memorial service at Windsor Castle due to a “personal matter.”

It was later revealed that this was his wife's ongoing battle with cancer, which was announced to the public via video on March 22.

In it, the princess bravely revealed that after undergoing planned abdominal surgery in January, she was diagnosed with cancer, so she is now receiving preventive chemotherapy.

While it was thought he would return to public duties after Easter, he explained that he will not return to work until his doctor deems it safe.

The princess made the announcement after rumors about her whereabouts reached a fever pitch last month.

This was, in part, the result of a doctored image the palace shared to celebrate Mother's Day, which was removed by major photo agencies.

The public subsequently began to speculate that the princess was missing, as she had not been reliably photographed in public since before Christmas.

It was then that she decided to explain the reason for her prolonged absence, highlighting that she is hopeful about her prognosis and putting all her energy into improving.
