Sachin Tendulkar, a cricket legend, is also a wildlife enthusiast and shares a keen fondness for tigers. He is often seen going on tiger safaris and exploring the wild and has time and again expressed his love for them and has also urged his followers to support their conservation.
Today, on the occasion of International Tiger Day, she shared a post on Instagram and wrote, “Tigers are deeply rooted in our heritage. Forest communities revere them as protectors. Caring for them is caring for our forests and by extension, all of us. Effective wildlife management, anti-poaching initiatives, dedicated runners and foot soldiers of our forest department have played a key role in increasing our tiger population.”
In his recent blog, the former cricketer shared a detailed account of several effective conservation measures that have led to India's tiger population increasing by 24 per cent.
According to The Times of India, she also recalled her recent visit to the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, where she witnessed three generations of tigers, including Junabai, her offspring, Veera and Veera's cubs.
“This quiet but powerful resurgence is a testament to Project Tiger, which has been underway in India for years and is grounded in science and has yielded remarkable results. It is a beautiful example of what nature’s resilience, driven by human intention, can achieve,” he wrote.
Sachin Tendulkar mentioned the impressive numbers achieved by India in terms of tiger population and praised the state governments of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra for leading the way. He also highlighted the decline in human-wildlife conflicts, in line with encouraging relocation of people from central areas.

The cricket legend highlighted the range of ecological and social challenges facing India's crucial tiger habitat, saying development projects threaten the fragmented landscape.
“Effective tiger conservation cannot happen without the involvement of local communities. This will be the key to achieving sustainable coexistence between humans and tigers. Although poaching has declined, it remains a threat and forest departments need to continue to develop their technical capacity,” he added. Stating that sound science-based policies, effective governance, government support, clear policy frameworks and collaborative efforts are important for successful conservation, Tendulkar asserted that the future of tigers remains in the hands of humans.
“This is a collective responsibility. Tigers are our pride. May their glory never fade,” he concluded.
