The Olympic Village's viral chocolate muffins made their debut in New York City with hundreds of people lining up at the East Village pop-up to try them.

Hundreds of people lined up on August 17 to see the new pop-up dedicated to the chocolate muffins that caused a sensation in the Olympic Village of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen posted about them on TikTok.

A user on X, previously TwitterShe took photos of the blockbuster and wrote: “There’s a looooong line on 2nd Avenue in the East Village this morning for a pop-up.”

Christiansen, affectionately nicknamed “the muffin man” online, shared a popular series of videos that garnered millions of views on TikTok, showing viewers his addiction to the Village’s delicious “chocolate muffin,” which he gave an 11/10 star rating.

In one video, Christiansen can be seen walking down the street with two muffins in each hand, strutting to the bass-heavy tune. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Meanwhile, another hilarious video showed him being “caught” red-handed as a pile of muffins was discovered in his drawers.

On the fans' reaction to her muffin addiction, she said: “I never in my life thought I would be taking photos of fans in the Olympic village, because (usually) only the older athletes do it, but I have been doing it. People have come up to me, talked about the muffins, chatted for a while.”

Although Christiansen hasn't been to the shop, many fans are hoping the cakes are as good as he described them. Food influencer Alyssa La Spisa (@the_reccomendista) visited the shop and raved about it to her viewers in a recent video she posted on TikTok.

“It’s like a cake, damn,” he said. “Delicious. If you’re craving chocolate, this is perfect.”

“That looks like heaven in a muffin,” one user wrote beneath her video. Another added: “About time the muffin came to town.”

With nearly 40,000 meals served to thousands of athletes from more than 200 countries and territories each day of the games, head baker Tony Doré noted that many of these athletes gathered at the Olympic Village bakery. From freshly baked baguettes to delicious “pastries,” Doré and his team produce a variety of treats every day during the games.

However, the muffins were made by another producer and rivalled typical French baked goods in popularity, with consumption of the pastries estimated to have reached 4,000 a day. The world-famous chocolate muffin recipe was posted on TikTok and Christiansen is one of many planning to recreate them at home.
