Maa Brahmacharini Vrat Katha
Sanskrit terms “Vrat” and “Katha” mean devotional or religious “vow[s]”and” stories “or” stories “. Vrat Katha, therefore, refers to stories of religious commitments and is generally associated with fasting in Hinduism. In the case of the goddess Brahmacharini, it refers specifically to the votes she took and how she fasta to reach Mr. Shiva as her husband.
Brahmacharini is the name by which we refer to the single form of the goddess Parvati. In her previous life, she was Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati. During a Yagna, Daksha had intentionally chosen not inviting Sati or Lord Shiva, her husband, to attend the ritual.
Despite Shiva's warning, Sati attended Daksha Yajna without invitation and was cruelly rejected by him against his guests. Then she insulted her husband, Shiva, who hurt her deeply and pushed her to immolate.
She was reborn as Parvati to King Himavat. To recover Shiva as her husband in her new life, Parvati became a Brahmacharini and made a severe penance by the Council of Narada Muni. Despite being a princess, he left his father's palace and stayed under the open skies in scorching heat, during the storms and during the hard winters.
For 1000 years, she survived only in a diet of flowers and fruits. For the following 100, she only consumed leaf vegetables. While praying Lord Shiva for 3000 years, he survived only with a diet of bilva leaves.
In a moment, he even stopped taking any food or water. It is the intense devotion and resolution of Maa Brahmacharini that inspires his devotees.
Bhog
Sugar, which embodies sweetness, purity and devotion, is the traditional BHOG that is offered to Maa Brahmacharini.
