Maha Kumbh stampede updates: On Wednesday, at least 30 people were killed in a stampede in Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, police said. Up to 60 people who suffered in the incident are in treatment in a local hospital.
Dig Kumbh Mela Vaibhav Krishna said Barricade broke after a large number of people met on Akhara's route in the early hours of Wednesday before “Brahm Muhurta.”
“In the Mauni Amavasya Snan, between 1 and 2 am ahead of the Brahm Muhurta, a large crowd gathered on the Akhara route, so the barricades were broken on the other side. The crowd on this side crossed to the other side and began to run the devotees waiting for Brahm Muhurta … The administration quickly enforced the rescue operation and created a green corridor for ambulances, and the hospitals were injured. Unfortunately, 30 of those devotees have died, ”Krishna said at the press conference.
In view of the stampede, several 'akhadas' had canceled their 'Amrit Snan' (holy bath). However, they later decided to resume around 10 am after the situation was controlled.
Today (January 29) is one of the most auspicious days to take a sacred greeting due to 'Mauni Amavasya'. Mauni Amavasya falls on the Hindu calendar day of Magh Krishna Amavasya. This is considered the most auspicious date between all special bath dates.
It is believed that on this day, the water of the holy rivers becomes 'Amrit'. Mauni Amavasya is also known as the 'Amavasya de los Santos'. The bathroom in Mauni Amavasya is traditionally done in silence.
