Macy Gray is the latest person to speak openly about her experience taking Ozempic.
He I try The singer recently appeared in Surreal life: The village of secrets with Kim Zolciak and Johnny Weir, where she explained exactly why she was taking the type 2 diabetes medication to lose weight and how her body responded to it.
“Oh my God, my stomach hurts,” she said. “I took Ozempic. I can’t go to the bathroom and I was up all night.”
However, Zolciak mentioned that these were normal side effects of the drug and responded: “Ozempic does that.”
Gray then revealed why she started taking Ozempic, describing herself as a “vain person.”
“I’m quietly a bit of a vain person,” the singer said. “I’ve gained a lot of weight in the last two years and this is the moment when everyone starts talking about Ozempic.”
She admitted that before taking Ozempic she tried to lose weight naturally through diet and exercise. “I was actually trying to lose weight before the show because I didn’t want to be super fat on TV, but here we are,” Gray said.
“So I thought, okay, I’m not taking it off the right way, let me see if I can get one of these Ozempic ones.”
In recent years, Ozempic and other prescription weight-loss drugs have become increasingly popular. Oprah Winfrey recently resigned from her position on the WeightWatchers board of directors so she could speak candidly about her experience with such drugs on her television special, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Guilt, and the Weight-Loss Revolution.”
“I decided that because this special was so important to me and I wanted to be able to talk about whatever I wanted, WeightWatchers is now in the business of being a weight health company that also administers weight medications,” Winfrey said during an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live“I didn’t want it to look like there was any conflict of interest.”
“I never imagined in my life that we would be talking about medicines that would bring hope to people like me, who have struggled for years with being overweight or obese,” Winfrey revealed during the March special.
“I come to this conversation in hopes that we can begin to release the stigma, shame, and judgment; to stop shaming other people for being overweight or for how they choose to lose or not lose weight; and most importantly, to stop shaming ourselves.”
Winfrey had previously admitted in an interview with People in December 2023 that he had taken weight loss drugs, so he wanted to distance himself from the negative stigma surrounding it.
“The fact that there is an approved prescription for weight management and getting healthier, in my life, feels like a relief, like a redemption, like a gift and not something to hide behind and be ridiculed for again,” she told the outlet at the time despite not mentioning which medication she was taking. “I am completely sick of other people shaming me, and particularly myself.”
