Kirstie Allsopp pays tribute to the death of her father and former Christie's chairman, Charlie Hindlip, aged 83


Kirstie Allsopp has paid tribute to her father after he died aged 83 on Wednesday (June 5).

He Location, location, location The presenter confirmed the news in a tribute to her Instagram page on Friday (June 7).

Charlie Allsopp was a well-known figure in the auction world, having been chairman of the world's leading auction house, Christie's.

“This is my dad, Charlie Hindlip,” the 52-year-old TV presenter wrote. “He was a great auctioneer, the best of his generation, an artist, a gardener, father of four children and grandfather of eight, a loving husband to a wife he lost too soon.

“He was a real star, he worked hard, played hard and went further than anyone expected.”

Allsopp shared that his father had “died yesterday at home, surrounded by love, flowers and photographs, in a house he built, overlooking a stunning garden he created from scratch.”

“I have been very proud to be your daughter my entire life and I will be until the day I die,” she continued. “Bless you dad, we love you so much.”

Allsopp's father married his wife Fiona Atherley in 1968. She lived with breast cancer for 25 years before dying from the disease aged 66. The couple had four children, including Kirstie, and three younger siblings named Henry, Natasha and Sofie.

Fellow property presenter and Location, Location, Location, and Relocation, Relocation Co-host Phil Spencer shared his condolences, writing: “What a talented and charismatic man your dear father was – a true legend of his time.

“He truly lived an extraordinary life. I send you all masses and masses of love and strength.”

Meanwhile, Notable renovations Presenter George Clarke added: “I'm so sorry for your loss Kirstie… but what beautiful, beautiful words about him. Sending you the biggest hugs and mountains of love. George x”.

Other members of Allsopp's family include his partner and real estate magnate Ben Andersen, 63. The couple share two children and Kirstie is also stepmother to her two children from a previous relationship.

The Channel 4 star met property businessman Andersen in 2004 through his ex-wife Theresa. They swore they would never get married after 10 days of dating, avoiding the modern trend of “over-the-top” weddings.
