As the brand's official ambassador, it's no surprise that Kim Kardashian was dressed in head-to-toe Balenciaga and sat down for the luxury fashion house's fall/winter 2024-2024 show in Paris. While her attendance might have been anticipated, few could have guessed that she would strategically sport an exclusive item.
On March 3, the Skims founder arrived at the Balenciaga presentation in a long black lace dress with long flared sleeves. She wore her hair in a ponytail, revealing a daring open neckline on her back. Kardashian kept the look simple and added just one unexpected accessory: a Balenciaga label. The printed gray label hung from the back of the neckline.
Online, people assumed that the fashion muse had accidentally forgotten to cut the tag off her designer outfit. However, Kardashian had no intention of ripping the expensive insignia off the back of her dress.
This season, the Balenciaga card was tied to the handles of slouchy bags and clipped to the inside of garments, offering it as if it were a common amulet on clothing and accessories.
While the concept may seem ironic, this isn't the first time the Spanish brand has turned overlooked everyday items into luxury must-haves. At this point, expect the unexpected when it comes to creative director Demna's work.
For Balenciaga's pre-fall collection, Demna held a presentation in Los Angeles, taking advantage of the lush Erewhon market for inspiration. Models strutted down the street holding grocery bags and porcelain to-go cups signed by Balenciaga (now on sale for $150).
The brand partnered with the boutique store to offer a $14 dark elixir consisting of lemon, ginger, cinnamon, organic maple syrup, apple and charcoal.
Kardashian has been seen wearing other dark pieces from Balenciaga, such as its $450 flip-flops designed to look like the disposable open-toed shoes provided after a pedicure. Balenciaga also introduced a towel designed to be a skirt and a $1,500 Lay's bag made to be a zippered bag.
Dresses made from sweatshirts, folded panties, shoe bags, backpacks and duffel bags were seen on the autumn/winter 2024 runway. Adding to the already fashion-forward concept, Demna wore baggy jeans as tops and slung suits as halterneck pieces, covering only the front half.
“We have this one-minute challenge to create a dress in the studio, like Catwalk Project”Demna noted. “So we would put things on his body and then take pictures together. It is fun”.
