Kay Burley says she 'wishes' she had breast cancer instead of her sister

Sky News presenter Kay Burley has said she wishes she had breast cancer instead of her younger sister.

The candid presenter spoke about the illness that took the lives of her mother, grandmother and aunt, in a candid new interview with The times.

When the 63-year-old woman was told she had an 80 percent risk of cancer, she had a scare herself a few years ago. But last year she received the news that her sister had received the dreaded diagnosis.

“My sister Jacqueline was diagnosed with breast cancer last year,” she said.

“She is my little sister, she has three grandchildren under three years old and, to be honest, I wish I had them instead of her. “I would rather it be me than her.”

Although the broadcaster periodically undergoes genetic testing to detect the disease, she said she still felt uncertain about her future.

“My family history is not good for longevity, so I always remind myself of that. “I just don’t know how much time I have.”

Jacqueline has been receiving treatment for the condition, and Sky News powerhouse Kay recently shared an update following an operation.

“Update: Thank you to everyone who regularly asks about my little sister, Jacqueline,” she wrote in an Instagram post last month.

“She had her cancer operation. It was a big problem but she is as strong as an ox.

“This was us in January. I hope it will be us next January and the next and the next ad infinitum.”

Earlier this year, Burley shared his support for Kate Middleton after her cancer diagnosis was revealed. In the process, she paid a moving tribute to her sister's journey with cancer.

“Thoughts for Kate and her family and hugs to all the families who are dealing with the specter of cancer in their family,” he wrote in March.

“Especially my little sister, Jacqueline, who has been stoic in her determination to face an illness that claimed both my mother and grandmother.”

The presenter added: “Doesn't she look fabulous in her wig?”

speaking in Good morning Great Britain In 2018, Burley recalled how his mother died at the age of 57.

“My mother died when she was my age. My little one was eight months old. In fact, it still makes me sad just thinking about it.”
