Katherine Ryan has revealed that being a single mother was not difficult for her.

The 41-year-old comedian raised her 14-year-old daughter Violet alone after becoming pregnant at 25 and has never publicly revealed the identity of the father. She subsequently reunited with her childhood sweetheart and had two more children: Fenna Grace, one, and Fred, two.

Ryan said she enjoyed the years she spent alone with Violet and expressed concern that her time as a single mother was the best time of her life.

Talking to Kate Thornton about the White Wine Question Time On the podcast, Ryan reflected: “I don’t think being a single mother was an explicit struggle. It was a wonderful decade.

“I went back to our apartment yesterday to do some work there, and I looked at the apartment and thought, 'I'm worried that the best years of my life were spent there,'” he revealed.

The Duchess The star explained: “Being a single mother is fantastic and rewarding, and you know you can’t rely on anyone else, so you just do it and you do it without resentment, because you don’t have the example of another adult who isn’t doing it and you don’t have to check with anyone.

“You know exactly where you stand and you have this unique life experience.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Ryan revealed that she had a consultation about freezing her eggs because she wants one more baby but can't take a break from her career.

“This is the timeline that women have to follow,” she said.

“A father, if he wanted another baby, could have one now. But I'm about to go on tour for a year and, with me, I'm very involved in caring for them for a year after I've nursed them, [also] sleep with them

“Professionally, it took me three years to do it, twice, plus the lockdown beforehand,” the comedian continued. “So I thought, what should I do at this point? Because I can’t even think about having another baby. I decided, like a year ago.

“So I thought maybe I should freeze some eggs this year.”

Last year, Ryan expressed disgust at the way his teenage daughter is routinely sexually harassed by much older men, calling a man who had filmed his daughter on television a “sick weirdo.”

“There is no mistaking Violet’s age. She is 14 and has braces,” he said. “Anyone looking at these girls would not mistake them for adult women.”
