Kate Middleton cancer update: Princess of Wales 'making good progress' with treatment as she returns to Trooping the Color

Princess Kate announces cancer diagnosis

The Princess of Wales issued a moving statement about her current battle with cancer and announced that she will attend Trooping the Color tomorrow.

Kate, 42, revealed she has good and bad days while undergoing “preventive chemotherapy” for an undisclosed form of the disease.

She has said she is “blown away” by the well wishes she and her family have received since announcing her diagnosis in a touching video in March.

Admitting that she is “not out of the woods yet,” the princess said she has returned to light duties and helping her three children with their schoolwork when she feels well enough.

The princess said she is looking forward to King Charles' official birthday parade, which will be her first public appearance since Christmas Day last year.

It is believed that the Princess will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the King's birthday aerial parade, which will close the event.

While this is a hopeful message from the Princess, she emphasized that she still has months of treatment ahead of her and is therefore unlikely to return to her previous duties any time soon.

The Princess of Wales announces her return

She says: “I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the past few months. It has really made a big difference to William and I and has helped us both through some of the most difficult times.

“I'm making a lot of progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to letting your body rest. But on good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling good.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it's a pleasure to get involved with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as start working a little from home.

“I'm looking forward to attending the King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join in on some public engagements over the summer, but I also know I'm not out of the woods yet.

“I am learning to be patient, especially in the face of uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal.

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding and to everyone who has so bravely shared their stories with me.”

Tomorrow will be Kate's first public appearance since Christmas Day last year.

Royal source claims Kate doesn't want to 'overshadow' King in Trooping the Color

Following the news that the Princess of Wales is “considering” appearing in Trooping the Colour, a source close to Kate has claimed she will not appear to avoid upstaging the king.

If the princess appears, it will be the first time she has appeared before the public since Christmas last year. She resigned from her position in January due to ongoing health problems.

The source told the daily beast: “Kate's appearance will steal the show from King Charles. she will not accept [the] risk of angering your father-in-law.

“It would be wonderful, of course,” they added, “but more than a little strange given that she retired from the Colonel's Review.”

The cost of Trooping the Color

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) revealed they spent £59,662.70 on the 2021 event on transport, fuel, horse feed and temporary accommodation.

However, the total was much higher as these are not all the costs incurred for the parade, which marks the King's official birthday.

A much more significant £28 million was set aside to cover the event and the then Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which included four days of public events. The Metropolitan Police spent an additional eight million on security for the event.

Statista reports that the sovereign grant for this financial year is £86.3 million, the same amount allocated in 2022 and 2023.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'relieved' to miss Trooping the Color

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are no longer royals, were reportedly not invited to the king's official birthday parade.

This was reportedly the case last year as well, even though it was Charles' first Trooping the Color as King.

Royal expert Tessa Dunlop said mirror from last year's event: “Prince Harry will not attend the King's inaugural Trooping of the Colour, when for the first time since 1986 Britain's monarch will be mounted giving the salute.

“Whether or not Harry was invited (probably not, why would you invite someone who wasn't going to attend?) is a moot point. Harry is no longer a working royal.

“Trooping the Color is a job for our working royalty. The key word there is “work.” On Saturday we will see them dressed up and parading, doing what they do best, providing the military, who depend on their hierarchical structures, a symbolic figure.”
