Kate Garraway's friends share update on 'broken' GMB presenter after husband Derek Draper's death


A close friend of Kate Garraway has shared some ideas on how Good morning Great Britain The presenter is dealing with the death of her husband, Derek Draper.

Draper, a former political lobbyist, died earlier this month, almost four years after being admitted to hospital with a severe case of Covid.

Garraway had spent a significant amount of his time caring for Draper as he suffered the effects of long Covid, which included the need for 24-hour care.

Although most have offered Garraway support and words of condolence in the weeks since Draper's death, the former Apprentice Contestant Katie Hopkins came under fire for a post mocking the presenter's pain.

Earlier this week, Clare Nasir, a television meteorologist and friend of Garraway, gave an update on how the station is doing.

“She is devastated, devastated,” Nasir said. Near magazine. “She goes from moments of true reflection to moments where she just cries.

“She has been fighting for Derek's right to live for four years. It was a very long journey for her and she was with him until her death. “She did not give up the fight until the last moment.”

Nasir, who regularly presents the weather in Channel 5 NewsShe also revealed that Garraway is “exhausted” from lack of sleep, and that her friends have organized a schedule to make sure she and her children get the support they need.

“When I was with her I slept very little. “She had been at Derek's bedside day and night while he tried to care for her family,” he added to the post.

“What are you doing? What are you saying? There's no light for her right now, just absolute pain and sadness. The other weekend there was a lot of tea making and cooking.

“We managed to play a couple of little games with the kids to add a bit of light. Kate had ups and downs and it is very sad to see, she is just broken.”

Days after Draper's death, Garraway shared his gratitude for the public's kind words with a video message on Good morning Great Britain.

“Hello everyone,” he said. “Thank you very much for all the wonderful messages you have sent me. It really means a lot to me, Darcey, Billy and Derek's entire family.

“You are an extraordinary comfort and I am so lucky to feel connected to you through all of these messages at this time when the raw pain of grief can be so isolating.”

Garraway continued: “And that's the wonderful thing, isn't it? Good morning Great Britain family. May all of us on the team and everyone watching at home stay connected, supporting each other through life's challenges, knowing that we can also laugh at the fun and joys we share together.”

The presenter, who has been a popular figure on ITV since joining the breakfast show. GMTV in 2000, will remain off the screen for the foreseeable future.
