Kate Beckinsale has expressed her gratitude to Britney Spears, who defended the actress against online criticism over her age.

Spears shared an Instagram post on July 18 to show her support for Beckinsale, who recently responded to people on social media for “getting upset” that she wasn’t “doing enough age-appropriate things.” In her post, Spears praised the 50-year-old actress’ reaction to the ageist comments, saying it was “pretty badass how she responded with a mini bow in her hair, literally looking like she’s four.”

Beckinsale later shared Spears’ post on her Instagram Story, expressing how much the “Gimme More” singer’s message meant to her. “Women supporting women is my favorite thing,” she wrote. “Thank you @britneyspears warrior queen of all queens for your amazing sweet post… all the love back.”

On Instagram, Spears praised Beckinsale for how she handled the backlash and acknowledged that she has also been criticized for her social media posts.

“I noticed how incredibly mean people were talking about her Instagram saying she needed more age appropriate content… she’s over fifty and I thought it was pretty cool how she responded with a mini bow in her hair literally looking like she was four,” Spears wrote. “It’s not as bad as some of my comments saying it’s sad that she’s the age I am and dancing everyday on my Instagram!”

She continued to defend Beckinsale, while expressing how important it is for people to support each other online.

“I know what it’s like to be judged so it’s a ridiculous and stupid thing to do at first but I think it’s important to HELP EACH OTHER and invite each other to places that help our souls grow!!!” Spears added. “What are you going to do to help someone and make their dreams come true besides be like Kate haters and say we’re too old or don’t have appropriate content?”

The “Toxic” singer also shared her plans to “Photoshop Kate” while responding to Ozzy Osbourne and his children, Kelly and Jack, after they criticized Spears for posting her dance videos on Instagram.

Earlier this month, Beckinsale shared a video on Instagram sporting her signature oversized bow while addressing some of the backlash she'd been receiving online.

“Some of my followers are really upset because they feel like I’m not doing enough age-appropriate things. I thought I’d let them start their week off with a little joy by putting on a hairnet,” Beckinsale said, while wearing a pink top and matching bottoms, along with black boots. “So for those of you who are going to get turned on by this, check it out, bitches.”

She went on to respond to the criticism in the caption, sarcastically writing: “Toast to the morons. Toast to the assholes. Toast to the scoundrels.”

In May, the Underworld The star also responded to Instagram users who claimed she was “too skinny” in the comments on her post. The criticism came after she “spent six weeks in the hospital due to vomiting profusely of blood from a Mallory Weiss tear.”

“The fact that you like girls who weigh more than me is of no importance or relevance,” she wrote in an Instagram comment that she later deleted. “The fact that you feel like your opinion is necessary to bully women for their appearance is relevant to me because it needs to stop feeling like it’s your right or anyone else’s. I don’t care what your taste in women is. I care that you think any of us need to know.”
