Judi Dench has revealed the gifts she would least like to receive from a loved one this Christmas.
The Oscar winner, 89, who recently hinted her film career may be over after 60 years, can be seen sneaking out to open her presents on Christmas morning without her family in a new charity drive.
Dench is surprised and confused by each gift she unwraps, as each gift fails a little despite the buyer's best efforts.
After unwrapping the first gift, the fall from the sky The star appears horrified to discover a racy red thong underneath the paper and declares: “Red is not my colour.”
Next, Dench, who suffers from age-related macular degeneration of the eyes, breaks out a pair of skates and admits she's always been more of an ice skater.
Finally, the prize winner looks at the camera in dismay as she opens a bedazzled pink dustpan and brush, which she quickly tosses onto the pile of ignored gifts on the floor.
Dench stars in the Christmas campaign to raise awareness for international disaster relief charity ShelterBox.
Instead of spending money on gifts that may not hit the mark, the organization encourages people to donate to charities and buy a gift that makes a difference.
ShelterBox specializes in emergency shelter and other household essentials for families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by disasters, conflict or climate crises.
Donors can purchase virtual gifts for those affected, including life-changing items such as shelters, thermal blankets and cooking utensils to help families stay warm and fed.
Dench said of the charity: “That's what I love about ShelterBox. Aid items such as tents, thermal blankets and water filters are tangible. “They make a difference.”
And he continued: “The number of people [120 million] uprooted from their homes around the world has never been greater and the need for emergency shelter has never been more urgent.”
ShelterBox is currently responding with emergency shelters in Gaza and supporting displaced people around the world in places including the Philippines, Lebanon, Mozambique, Somalia, Chad, Cameroon and Yemen.
Kirsty Alexander, Head of Supporter Engagement at ShelterBox, said: “We are incredibly lucky that Dame Judi has supported ShelterBox for many years and has been so kind to help us make this little film.
“It has been a pleasure to work with her on a project that combines humor with a sincere message.”
