Hello, I'm Deborah Vankin, welfare writer for the Times. I am not sure of you, but 2025 has been one year in the year so far. Especially since the fires in January forced us inside, stealing the opportunity to enjoy the Great Los Angeles outdoors during the most great time of the year.
That's why it's time for a walk. I often reach the paths when I need to restart. Although I usually do solo walks, I find particularly stimulating group walks, especially with people I still do not know. We literally meet in common terrain, a love shared by the outdoors.
We would like to invite 30 Times subscribers to join us on a reader walk on Saturday, March 8 at 9 am, the inaugural event in our series of exclusive hiking events of subscribers, last June, explored the Under Arroyo Seco Trail; The second, led by my colleague Jaclyn Cosgrove in October, crossed the Trail Gabrielino along the dry stream. This time, we will walk along the urban-adjacent path Elysian Park West Loop.
The walk is an easy 2.4 mile circuit, which is largely flat, with some brief but soft earrings. It is one of my favorite places to take forages because it feels like an escape from remote nature and a panoramic tour of some of the most dramatic city views of Los Angeles. The places of interest include parts of the La River, the Dodger Stadium and the center of Los Angeles. The mixture of aromas and sounds, birds combined with the traffic of the highway and music, the smell of wild sage and floating barbecue smoke, everyone feels unique to me.
We will meet on the path on Elysian Park Drive, right next to the stadium. Stacion in the lot of Grace E. Simons Lodge and walk back for Elleian Park Drive until you reach the stadium. You will see the path to your left. There are no bathrooms on this walk, but you can use one in the shelter after parking.
As I did the last time, I will guide the group in some soft stretching to loosen before walking. I will also share what I have learned about the geography and history of the area during our walk. The event should take about two hours walking at a leisurely pace.
Bring resistant and comfortable shoes, a hat, sunscreen and water. Correa dogs are also welcome. I know that some of my colleagues will bring yours. (I would bring my cats but they are walking Wimps!)
This event is free for the first 30 subscribers recorded. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older and must sign an exemption before the walk.
You can get a place here at Eventbrite.com. See you out there!
