It will be for five days. A rare coincidence of Panchak will be observed on Raksha Bandhan. When the moon is in the last five constellations – Dhanishtha, Shatabhisha, Purvabhadrapa, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revathi – it is called Panchak. In simpler terms, Panchak occurs when the moon is in the zodiac signs of Aquarius and Pisces. Panchak will be observed on Raksha Bandhan this year. Astrologer Dr Ganesh Mishra of Central Sanskrit University, Puri, explains the importance of this rare occasion on Raksha Bandhan.

According to the Hindu calendar, this year, Raksha Bandhan falls on Monday, 19 August. According to Udaya Tithi, Sawan Purnima falls on 19 August. Sawan Shukla Purnima Tithi falls from 03:04 to 23:55 on 19 August. This time, the Panchak will be celebrated on the day of Raksha Bandhan, which is a Raj Panchak. Raksha Bandhan will be imposed from 19:00 hrs which will last till 05:53 hrs on the next day i.e. 20 August. Raj Panchak will be celebrated from 19 to 23 August.

According to Dr. Ganesh Mishra, the fall of Raj Panchak on Raksha Bandhan will be auspicious and fruitful. On Raj Panchak, you can take up work related to wealth and property. Pending government work is expected to be completed during this period. On Raj Panchak, you can purchase movable or immovable property. The duration of Raj Panchak is considered auspicious for many. It is also advised to start new businesses during this time. Panchak occurs every month. Most of the times, Panchak is considered inauspicious for starting new ventures. The occurrence of Raj Panchak on Raksha Bandhan will not have any ill effects, according to Dr. Ganesh Mishra.

This year, Raksha Bandhan is not being celebrated in the morning as Bhadra Muhurat is celebrated during the day. On August 19, the auspicious time for Raksha Bandhan will be from 1:30 p.m. to 9:08 p.m.
