How to spend the best Sunday in Los Angeles, according to Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts vividly remembers how she was welcomed into life in Los Angeles 30 years ago. “I was 3 years old, because my first memory of Los Angeles was of that big [Northridge] “It was an earthquake in 1994,” the actor told The Times via Zoom recently from New York City.

She had just appeared on “CBS Mornings” to promote her latest film, “Space Cadet,” which premieres Thursday on Prime Video. In addition to serving as an executive producer on the film, Roberts plays a Florida party girl who becomes an unlikely astronaut.

But now she's ready to embark on her ideal Sunday itinerary. Before she answered my questions, the co-founder of the Belletrist online book club, a fashion lover and mother of a 3-year-old, already had her own itinerary in place.

“Do I have my baby with me or not?” she said. “Because my ideal The ideal Sunday is to be with him. But to accomplish all of this, I would probably do it alone.” With that, the “Nancy Drew” and “American Horror Story: Delicate” star left the launch pad and soared through a meticulously planned day that begins with a cup of coffee in Laurel Canyon and ends with the “Scream Queens” star sporting a crown of sorts.

This interview has been lightly edited and condensed for brevity and clarity.

10 am: Coffee in the canyon
If it's my ideal Sunday, I can sleep late, so at 10am I'm going to… Lilly's Coffee at Laurel Canyon Country Store. It's a small outdoor coffee stand. [the store] And it's the best coffee. I'll order my iced latte with an extra shot of espresso and a little vanilla.

11:30 am: A surprise visit for periodicals
From there I usually go to Larchmont. [Boulevard]I've been going to it since I was a kid with my mom. I love it. [Above the Fold] Newspaper stand I stop there and buy all my magazines because they always have everything: Paris Review if they have it, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Architectural Digest, British Vogue, The Atlantic, Flaunt, and depending on who's on the cover, Newsweek and Time. I literally buy like 40 magazines a month because I like to make collages.

I sometimes do brunch on Sundays if I feel like it or go straight to lunch. I am obsessed with the wines, spirits and cheeses of Larchmont Village. [which isn’t open on Sundays] Right across the street. Their sandwiches are to die for. I love the tuna one. If you're from there, you know they only make it when they feel like it, which is really cool on their part.

Noon: Pack a bunch of books
From there I would go to Skylight Books and collect a loot of books for Belletrist. Our book [for June was] “The Friday Afternoon Club” by Griffin Dunne, which I devoured in five days. I already had a copy for myself, but I’ve been giving that book away to everyone because it’s so he Sorry, summer birthday friends, but I'm giving you a book. Sorry to spoil the surprise. Skylight also has some great recommendations and sells some really nice postcards and stuff like that.

13 h: Let your inner decoration enthusiast go
From there, I would go to Hillhurst to Spitfire GirlThis store is really cute and has amazing gifts and trinkets. During the Christmas season, they have the most amazing selection of Christmas decorations. I am a total ornament enthusiast. The last one I bought was a little tin of caviar that had a [fish] There's caviar coming out of it in the front. My mom loves gin and tonics, so I bought her a gin ornament with glitter all over it. She loved it. They also have these John Derian trays that I like to give as gifts. It's right across from Pierce & Ward. [which is closed on Sundays]he [interior designers who] I made my house. Sometimes I go there and look for inspiration.

4pm: A glass of wine and a gin set all year round.
My boyfriend and I love going to The Wine Pharmacy at Sunset Junction. It's a wine shop that also has some snacks and food, and we'll buy a bottle of white wine or orange wine and play gin and tonic for a couple of hours, especially if the weather is nice. obsessed With gin, I always carry a deck of cards with me and we've been keeping score for a year now. He's ahead. I didn't start off so well, but I'm getting better, so I think we'll just have to start from scratch.

I love Sunset Junction. It's a very nostalgic place for me because I've been going there since I was 21.

19:00 hours: Musso & Frank for flannel cakes
I probably should have mentioned exercise, but if it's an ideal Sunday, I probably won't be exercising, so dinner would be next. I love it, love it, love it. Musso and FrankIt's the classic LA spot, and my mom used to take me there since I was 5. And it always makes me think of her. In fact, I just celebrated her last birthday there. [party] There, and it was a lot of fun.

Whether at the counter, the bar, or a booth, I don't care where we sit because everything is fabulous. For dinner, I order the flannel cakes, which are a luxury for me. They're sort of a cross between a crepe and a pancake, and they're indescribable. They're heaven on earth. And of course, the martini they serve there is a 10 out of 10, not only for the taste but for the presentation. It's just beautiful. My go-to order is a gin martini, however the bartender sees fit to make it. But I don't like the twists. I also like the blue cheese-stuffed olives, which really gross out my dinner companions. I always tell them, “Try it!”

21:30: Go see a late movie (maybe)
Sometimes, if I feel like it, I'll go see a movie with my mom or my boyfriend. I love going to the movies when I can. I think my mom and I are going to see “The Bikeriders.” I love Jodie Comer and I think she's one of the best actresses ever.

Midnight (or so): Put on the crown of sleep
I do not go to I go to bed early but I like to get up in I go to bed early, around 11 or 12, because I have a whole special bedtime environment with all my special pillows. I use the Drowsy sleep mask and I have a crazy pillow called the Sleep Crown that goes over my head. Since I travel so much, the way I sleep has to be the same everywhere since I'm always in a different place. So I'm very particular about my bedtime stuff.
