How to spend the best Sunday in Los Angeles, according to Awkwafina

In Awkwafina’s new film, “Jackpot!” (co-starring John Cena and Simu Liu and directed by Paul Feig; now streaming on Prime Video), the rapper and comedian plays an aspiring actress who becomes the winner of a multimillion-dollar lottery ticket. So when we recently sat down for a Zoom interview about her ideal Sunday, one of the things we talked about was how her perfect weekend might change if she actually won that amount of money in real life.

On Sunday Funday, Angelenos share step-by-step what their ideal Sunday in the city would look like. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat, and how to enjoy life on the weekends.

“If I hit the jackpot, I think I would rent out all those places where people usually line up, those places where there are lines all the way out the door, just to be annoying,” he said. “Places like Cinespia and Pine & Crane… And I would rent out the Crypto.com Arena and go to the skating rink and maybe skate around. No, I don’t skate, but I would.”

Until she wins a “Jackpot!” level lottery, however, her best Sunday will look a lot less like a one-man roller derby and a lot more like the one she outlined below.

This interview has been lightly edited and condensed for brevity and clarity.

11 am: Let's start with a smoothie
If it were my ideal Sunday, I would get up at 10 or 11. [a.m.] — Maybe at noon if I'm feeling frisky. And the first thing I'd do would be to go Jayde Marketwhich is in the Beverly Glen Center in my neighborhood, and I would have this excellent shake that they have, the [Green & Glowing] One. And maybe a breakfast burrito.

Noon: Drive east to Mohawk General Store
After that, it's a matter of getting in my car and heading east. I love my neighborhood, but a lot of my friends live on the East Side. I might like to go to Westfield Century City Shopping Center along the way. Century City is my favorite mall, and I sometimes take my dog there, and then I stop by some stores like American rag [on South La Brea Avenue] either Mohawk General Store in Silver Lake, which is kind of like American Rag but smaller.

1:30 p.m.: A French omelette at the Figaro Bistrot
Since I'm on the East Side, I'd probably head to Bistrot FigaroI really like Figaro; it's a little French cafe and there are always a ton of people outside all the time. I'd have a glass of wine and maybe an omelet. They make a really good omelet and serve it with a side salad. I also like this place called Superba.

3:30 pm: Visit the Los Feliz Flea
After that, I would probably leave. Edendale —Just because of the atmosphere, to be honest—I've never eaten there, but I like to hang out there with my friends. And sometimes I go to the Los Feliz Flea Marketwhich recently moved to a new location. I really like it [Ads Have Souls]That's the stand that has everything framed. [vintage magazine art] Of cars and stuff like that. I love that guy and I have a couple of his things. I mostly take them to New York because they're a little less recognizable there. I have this really awesome framed photo of him. [Leslie Nielsen] of [“Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult”]in which he is pregnant. That is quite sick.

5:00 pm: Focus on finding furniture
I really like furniture stores and I've been trying to visit a few here and there. So, right now, I'm probably wandering around looking for furniture.

6:30 pm Dinner in K-town
I think I would end my night in Koreatown, maybe in HibiI don't even usually place orders. [when I go] They get everything there and it's amazing. It was started by a friend and last year they added it to the Michelin Guide so they're doing really well. But it's a smaller place and it's harder to get in. So if I couldn't get in I'd go to a place called Oliviawhich is also in Koreatown. They are all vegetarian and they make fried oyster mushrooms and a really good pizza. I like to eat dinner early so I would do it around 6 or 6:30 p.m.

8:00 p.m.: Have fun in the karaoke room
Then I would go to [the members-only club] Platypus —It's in the same building as the restaurant. Between crews in K-town — to do karaoke. I do karaoke all the time. I have a karaoke room in my house where I practice for karaoke. obsessedMy favorite songs? I like “Chop Suey!” by System of a Down or “Hey Ma” by Cam'ron or “Take It Easy” by the Eagles. “Walkin' After Midnight” [by Patsy Cline] is another good karaoke song. However, the best karaoke song is “Under the Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers because it is accessible to everyone.

10pm: Spend the night with “90 Days”
If I had to work on Monday, I'd probably try to go home early and watch TV. I like to rewatch things and right now I'm watching all of the “90 Day Fiancé” shows. [reality TV shows] And the one I think is airing now is the one about the boy named Gino. [Palazzolo] It’s called “90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?” I love it, so I’d probably be watching TV late into the night.

12 am:Lunch and lights out
The lights would probably go out around midnight or 1am, and I've been eating Lunchables at night lately for some reason, so I would have a snack of Lunchables.
