By taking proactive steps, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting enough rest, you will be better able to cope with fatigue and enjoy a more energetic pregnancy.

Fatigue is a common feeling during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimester. It occurs due to hormonal changes, increased energy demands, and the body's increased effort to support the growing baby. Fluctuations in progesterone levels, altered sleep patterns, and emotional stress can further contribute to exhaustion. Listening to your body and prioritizing self-care is essential to maintaining energy levels and overall well-being during pregnancy.

Dr Sanjida Yasmin, Senior Consultant (Obstetrician & Gynaecologist) at Apollo Cradle & Children's Hospital, Chirag Enclave, New Delhi, suggests ways to deal with fatigue during pregnancy:

Aim to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night and, if possible, take short naps during the day. Staying hydrated and eating a balanced diet rich in iron, protein and vitamins will also keep your energy levels up.

Light to moderate exercise, such as walking or prenatal yoga, can improve circulation and help combat fatigue, but it's important to listen to your body and not overexert yourself.

In addition, managing stress through techniques such as deep breathing, meditation or gentle stretching can help alleviate mental fatigue. It is also essential to ask for help and delegate household chores, as overworking yourself can worsen burnout.

Always check with your doctor if fatigue becomes overwhelming or is accompanied by other symptoms such as dizziness or shortness of breath, as it could indicate an underlying condition, such as anemia.

By taking proactive steps, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting enough rest, you will be better able to cope with fatigue and enjoy a more energetic pregnancy.
