With temperatures that rise throughout India, heat waves are becoming a recurring and dangerous reality. Prolonged extreme exposure can lead to heat exhaustion, dehydration and even heat stroke, especially between vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Why are children and older people at greater risk?

Children have underdeveloped temperature regulation systems, which makes them more susceptible to dehydration. Older people, on the other hand, can have pre -existing health conditions and a reduced capacity to feel and respond to heat, putting them at greater risk.

Tips for staying fresh and protected:

Stay hydrated: Ensure regular water intake, coconut water and drinks rich in electrolytes. Avoid coffee and sugary drinks.

Right dress: Light and baggy cotton clothes in light colors helps the body to breathe and stay fresh.

Avoid outdoor activities during maximum heat: Limit outdoor exposure between 11 am to 4 pm game time or errands during the coldest hours.

Keep fresh houses: Use curtains, blinds or reflective window panels to block direct sunlight. Turn on fans or ACS as necessary. The sponge with cold water also helps.

Never leave anyone in a parked car: Temperatures can increase dangerously high inside vehicles, even if the windows are cracked.

Monitor symptoms: Be attentive to signs such as excessive thirst, dizziness, fatigue, nausea or dry skin. Immediate cooling and hydration are essential.

Special care:

Children under 5 years old and people over 65 should be verified frequently. Offer water even if they are not thirsty. Include moisturizing fruits such as watermelon, cucumber and oranges in your diet.

As the climatic patterns change, the adaptation to heat waves is vital. Simple and conscious steps can greatly contribute to guaranteeing security for their loved ones this summer.
