Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being protected by a “ring of steel” security team as they continue their four-day tour of Colombia.

After landing in the country's capital, Bogotá, on Thursday, the couple wasted no time in greeting Francia Márquez, Colombia's vice president, where they enjoyed lunch and discussed their goals for the visit, including championing online security.

Despite a seemingly relaxed first meeting, the Sussexes landed in a country in political turmoil with the government accused in some quarters of using former serving royals as “political pawns” to cover up a series of corruption allegations.

In light of this, the Duke and Duchess were reportedly given an “immense security presence” with “14 cars and convoys of police vans,” according to a journalist covering the trip.

As the couple began their second day of engagements at a school, their security team was seen protecting the couple and the vice president with a bulletproof briefcase.

Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's trip comes as the Princess of Wales' ongoing cancer treatment schedule has been revealed.

He will continue to receive “preventive chemotherapy” through the summer to treat an undisclosed form of the disease before spending a few months recovering.

“The direction is positive [but] There will be no major changes [in terms of her public appearances] and no one is giving a time frame for their return,” he said. Daily MailRoyal editor Rebecca English said:

“He is managing himself fantastically well to give the impression that everything is going well, but those of us who are aware of these things realise that the engagements are shorter and carefully planned – for example, he sometimes arrives by helicopter at the last minute before he is flown in by helicopter and presumably collapses into an armchair at home.”

“It was very emotional for them, from there they moved on to kindergarten and then finally to the garden, where they helped plant two trees.

“There was music and dancing as they walked around the school and joined in the dancing. Then Harry tried out the punching bag in the gym.

“They were super excited when they received the gifts and because the kindergarten children are the same age as Archie.”
