Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on 7th August.

According to Panchang, Hariyali Teej is celebrated annually on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravana.

Hariyali Teej is an important and popular festival in the northern states of India. It is celebrated on Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Shravana. During this time, married women observe this fast for their husbands to live long and have better health. In Hinduism, Teej, which falls in the month of Shravana, has special significance. The festival of Teej is dedicated to Goddess Parvati.

On this auspicious festival, a ritual of puja, fasting, etc. is performed for Goddess Parvati, and people also donate various makeup items on this day. During this fast, married women wear green clothes and apply mehendi. According to the Panchang, the festival of Hariyali Teej is celebrated every year on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravana. In 2024, the festival of Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Wednesday, 7th August.

To know more about Hariyali Teej, we spoke to Haridwar-based astrologer Pandit Shridhar Shastri. Pandit Shastri told Local 18 that while it is a rule to keep the Hariyali Teej fast without water, if a woman is unable to maintain a fast without water, she can complete it by consuming fruits etc. during this fast. He said that on this day, women wear green clothes, apply mehendi on their hands and adorn themselves with green bangles, green bindis etc.

He further said that according to Hindu beliefs, the Hariyali Teej fast is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. Women observing this fast are required to offer 16 items of adornment to Goddess Parvati, so that she gets pleased and blesses them with uninterrupted good fortune. According to mythology, this fast was initially initiated by Goddess Parvati, who observed it to get Lord Shiva as her husband.

According to Pandit Shridhar Shastri, women who fast on Hariyali Teej should keep positive feelings in mind and avoid negative feelings or thoughts. Women who fast on this day should stay away from debates and also take blessings from elders to get the benefit of observing this fast.
