Gordon Ramsay's flagship restaurant in Chelsea has reminded customers of the dress code in a prominent message on its website.
The restaurant, named after the famous chef, has been open since 1998 and was awarded three Michelin stars in 2001, which it still retains.
Although the establishment has always focused on good food and adopted a formal atmosphere, a report from online mail claims the advice has been more strictly enforced over the past year.
A message to diners in the “restaurant information” section of the website reads: “We would like all our guests to feel free to express their own individual style; however, we ask that you avoid shorts, tracksuits and sweatshirts with hoodies.
“Smart coaches are fine. We know that many of our guests like to dress up, which we appreciate! Ultimately, we want all guests to feel at home.”
The independent Restaurant Gordon Ramsay has been contacted for comment.
The restaurant was Ramsay's first solo venture and is described as offering “elegant modern French cuisine using the best seasonal ingredients and employing both classic and modern techniques.”
Describing the restaurant, the Michelin Guide says: “Head chef and co-owner Matt Abé interprets Ramsay's style impeccably, with signature dishes such as lobster, prawn and salmon ravioli that are as exquisitely executed as ever.
“As the embodiment of the chefs' perfectly judged contrasts of flavor and texture, and their lightness to the touch, you can't go wrong with roast beef sweetbreads.”
Elsewhere in the restaurant, visitors can enjoy the £210 “prestige menu”, which includes the lobster ravioli dish, Cornish turbot with white asparagus, a selection of cheeses and sorbets.
This year, the chef and father of six will open five new restaurants in the 22 Bishopsgate skyscraper in London, including another Lucky Cat, another Bread Street Kitchen, a bar, a chef's table that seats 14 and a cooking school .
With these new efforts, the hell's kitchen Star will expand its restaurant empire to nearly 90 locations worldwide, becoming the largest chef empire in the world.
Recent reports have also claimed that Ramsay is increasing security at his £7million mansion after squatters took over his London pub last month.
After first stating that they would stay in the building, the squatter group said they would leave after lawyers secured a High Court order for possession of the premises.
