'Furious' | Anatomy of a scene
Director George Miller narrates a sequence from his film starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Tom Burke.
-
Hello, I'm George Miller, director of “Furiosa.” At this point in the movie, we have Furiosa played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Praetorian Jack played by Tom Burke arriving at Bullet Farm, where they must collect all of this ammunition and weapons for this battle. . However, when they arrive at Bullet Farm, something strange happens. When they see the dog with a foot in its mouth, they realize that he is Dementus's dog. And they know at that moment that Dementus has somehow taken over Bullet Farm. She just gets out in time, and the other car that came in with them basically gets cut in half by this huge steel rake. And that shot was very difficult to make. Anya had to make that 180 degree turn. The rake lowered. But controlling the timing of her spin and the rake coming down and crushing the other car was very, very difficult to do. [GUNSHOT] So there's a certain part of this sequence that doesn't have music because the music would be redundant, so it's not composed. The score only emerges when it informs what happens between our two main characters. They have to respond in the moment like all Warriors do and get out of this situation. And in the process we find them giving up their own interests. One for the other. What follows is that through their actions, not through their words and their promises to each other, but through their actions, they are actually willing to give themselves completely to each other. [ENGINE RUMBLE] In a way, it's a kind of love story in the middle of an action scene. That's always at the center of every action sequence. It's not all kinetics and sound. It is a character interaction. It's character-driven and it's the interaction between the characters that interests us the most.
