Emily in Paris' Emily Cooper has a new look in season 4, part 1, which matches her new wardrobe.
Since the first five episodes of the Netflix series dropped on August 15, fans have been obsessed with Lily Collins' colorful fashion sense, arguing that her outfits are better than in past seasons.
From voluptuous sculptures to investigative haute couture, Mirror, mirror The star wore playful designer outfits for the show's first three seasons, emulating an exaggerated American interpretation of Parisian chic.
Emily Cooper, a hard-working luxury marketing executive living in Paris after being sent on assignment from Chicago, believes that the more over-the-top and edgy the clothes, the better. She mixes prints with metallics and sports accessories with little functionality. She's the walking poster child for “anything goes,” but fans of the show have had trouble seeing that.
After watching seasons one through three, in which Collins' character wore kitschy, doll-like attire, viewers were unimpressed.
One outspoken fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to compare Emily Cooper's fashion to Betty the ugly. “Ugly Betty dresses like Emily in Paris“It's considered ugly on Betty, but high fashion on Emily. I wonder why,” they wrote.
“Okay, the outfits in Emily in Paris “They have to be trolling us now,” another X user agreed after watching the third season.
Amid online hate, fans have defended the theatrical costumes, calling them refreshing and “ahead of their time.” Now, most viewers are in love with Emily’s fashion, specifically in the first part of season four.
Ahead of the new season premiere, Collins told her followers that Emily will be sporting “fresh fashion” on her unexpected adventures this season, and so far, most can agree that this is the best look she’s ever had. Between a royal blue Barbara Bui pantsuit with Paco Rabanne boots and a butter yellow look with a corduroy skirt by Isabel Marant, fans have the impression that Emily is stepping up her style game.
“Obsessed with all these looks,” one Instagrammer captioned a photo of Emily in the all-yellow ensemble.
A second added: “This season’s outfits are (fire).”
“The outfits in Emily in Paris “This season is different and possibly the best one yet,” wrote one X user. “The fashion choices on the show have evolved and are receiving huge praise from fans.”
Another agreed: “There’s something different about the ‘Emily in Paris’ outfits this season. And they might just be the best ones yet.”
Viewers who preferred Emily's eccentric looks seemed to be disappointed with the tone of this season, while others thought that season four's fashion was a disservice to its audience as it did not mimic current trends.
“I think fashion didn't work for me just in season 1,” one person argued. “But with the resurgence of more is more, Emily in Paris This season took a more monotonous approach and it's a shame because they finally found their audience and toned it down a bit at the wrong time.”
Second part of Emily in Paris The fourth season will premiere on Netflix on September 12.
