Hi, I'm Jon M. Chu and I'm the director of “Wicked: For Good.” ♫ “Truth is not a question of fact or reason.” ♫ Here's the great Jeff Goldblum playing the Wizard and Ariana Grande playing Glinda the Good and Cynthia Erivo playing Elphaba. In this scene, we really wanted them to be together so Glinda could convince Elphaba to stay with the Wizard. And throughout this entire song, they are singing live. ♫ “A man is called a traitor.” ♫ Also this, when he gets on the contraption, it's actually Jeff Goldblum getting on a platform to fly in the air. He had to train for that. So he does his own stunts in this movie. Now, this shot, all this is useless. He had to hide behind that curtain. And she is literally right now, in real time, running down the hallway to get back to that bookshelf. So all of this is in real time. We had five engineers, remote control engineers, controlling the pace, the eyeballs, and then she runs in, making sure she doesn't slip from behind. And then Ari comes out. ♫ “They call it wonderful.” “So I’m wonderful.” “And it's so wonderful. It's part of his name.” ♫ So we haven't cut everything above yet. And I know that when we made this staircase, Nathan Crowley, our production designer, and Alice Brooks, our director of photography, they really wanted this red staircase to nod to the old classic musicals. And in another nod to classic old storytelling, we wanted this moment where Glinda could take Elphaba aside and say the same thing she said in the first movie, which is, imagine what we could do together. And aren't you tired of running? And then this magical ride at Disneyland happens. I always thought the Peter Pan attraction was a big nod to this, that everything was created by one person and yet I could still feel that childlike wonder. I really needed Cynthia to return to her childish state to remember what it felt like to be part of a system and how nice it feels to be comfortable sometimes, even though what she did was braver and made her uncomfortable. In reality, the contraption they are in is a great feat of engineering. We literally built a ride. In reality, they are being lifted up from below. So we have footprints at the bottom. They won't hang them from above. And he went around the entire room. This room is actually connected to the throne room with the Wizard's great head. Then you could walk from this side to the front, which is what you're about to see as you walk through these curtains. I always wanted to see what it's like to be behind and in front of the curtain. That classic idea. And when they came in here, I wanted to feel that wonder of walking into almost a carousel-like place. And even as they spin, it's almost dizzying. And in a weird way, it's almost like that shot in “Titanic” with Leo where they're spinning right before tragedy strikes. “Believe me, it's fun!”
