Eva Mendes has expressed her gratitude to NBC after the network refused to show the faces of her children and Ryan Gosling as they attended the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On August 7, the 50-year-old actress shared a photo on Instagram of herself in Paris, looking out of her hotel window, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. In the caption, she described one of the reasons why she doesn't like being in the public eye.
“Sunrise in Paris. Dream marks and everything,” he says Hitch The star wrote: “The moment I see photographers when I’m outside, I get on guard and stay safe. That’s why I wanted to share this.”
However, several people in the comments responded to her comment, pointing out that the Olympics are a “high-profile” event where celebrities are constantly documented in the stands. One fan also shared their hope that Mendes, Gosling, and their two daughters, Esmeralda, nine, and Amada, eight, could find a place where they can hang out like a “normal family.”
In response, Mendes acknowledged how respectful NBC was of his family, as the network did not show Amada and Esmeralda's faces when it aired the famous couple's appearance at the Olympics on August 4.
“They were great about not posing the kids so I’m a grateful mama bear,” she wrote. “Thanks for the sweet comment. I’ll get back to you right away!”
When another person in the comments told Mendes that she had to “expect” to be caught by the paparazzi, given her celebrity status, she responded by explaining how she protects herself when she’s in the public eye.
“I’m not saying I don’t expect it, I’m saying I’m staying alert, and I’m happy to do that. I like not to flaunt it,” the actor wrote. “But I feel like I can let my guard down on my page. Hence my post.”
On August 4, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the famous couple and their children made a rare public appearance at the Grand Prix dressage freestyle event. In this event, Germany's Jessica von Bredow-Werndl won gold with a total score of 90.09 percent. During the competition, Gosling opted for a white tank top, a red jersey, brown sunglasses, and a white cap with the Paris Olympics logo. His partner wore a navy blue dress, beige sunglasses, and a large sun hat.
Gosling and Mendes' day out in Paris continued after the dressage event, as they headed to the women's gymnastics uneven bars final. NBC's broadcast of the event captured the pair in the stands, with Gosling wrapping his arm around Mendes' shoulders. The pair also watched the competition, in which Team USA gymnast Suni Lee won bronze, while wearing sunglasses, with the brand's logo on the front. Barbie star swapping her white Olympic cap for a green one.
Mendes has previously spoken out about his decision to step away from Hollywood, as he has continued to keep his decade-long relationship out of the spotlight. During an appearance on Today In March, she reflected on her decision to stop acting so she could focus on raising her son and The notebook children of the star.
“I didn’t think twice. I’m very fortunate and I thought, ‘If only I could have this time with my kids,’” she said, before noting that she still works but “doesn’t act anymore.” “Because acting takes you to the place, it keeps you away.”
While Mendes acknowledged that she and her partner have their own careers, her work-from-home schedule gives Gosling the opportunity to act.
“It was almost like a non-verbal agreement, like they said, ‘Okay, he’s going to work and I’m going to work. I’m going to work here,’” she said. “He went and did his job. He happens to be very good at his job. And he did it and came home.”
