Celebrities were left devastated after the Euro 2024 championship trophy failed to return home, again, following England's defeat.

The national team lost 2-1 to Spain after a highly contested final in which the winning goal was scored in the 87th minute.

It is the second time England have come close to winning a football final since 2021, the last time being the team's World Cup victory in 1966.

Prince William was in the stands to watch England play alongside his son, Prince George, and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. George expressed his horror at the Three Lions' defeat, as he held his hands to his face in disbelief.

However, King Charles has since called on the football team to “keep their heads held high”.

The match, which took place at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, was attended by Olly Murs, Piers Morgan and Rob Beckett. Former One Direction members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were also present.

Comedian Beckett joked that he had “abandoned” his wife and children on a family holiday to watch England play. He explained that he had been taking a break with his family in Greece but “just left my wife and kids” to attend the final.

However, he looked solemn and dejected as he returned home after the loss.

Beckett's friend Lloyd Griffith joked: “We'll be back home. See you in 2026,” as he shared a picture of the pair on a train packed with football fans.

Meanwhile, “Heart Skips a Beat” singer Murs was devastated by the loss and was seen with his head in his hands.

“When you realise you have to fly from Berlin to Zurich before returning to London after losing the Euros,” she wrote in a caption on Instagram. “Thank you so much for the hospitality and for allowing me to experience this unforgettable night!”

As well as musicians and television personalities, well-known football faces in attendance at the final included former England player Peter Crouch, Welsh player Gareth Bale and legendary Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.

Fans were divided between pride in their country's progress and disappointment and frustration that their team was “shit.”

“We have not made anyone proud, it is a disgrace to the players and the manager, we have only won two games in 90 minutes, Southgate should retire,” wrote one angry fan.

“England was shit,” wrote another.

However, others wrote: “You did us proud, England” and “Well done lads, you played well.”

Irish fans celebrated Spain's victory and Spanish music was played in one Dublin bar throughout the night as they shared their joy at England's defeat. In an even more confusing atmosphere, English fans were seen chanting “We want Jay Slater back” outside a pub that was showing the match, following the teenager's disappearance in Spain.

Several celebrities had wished the team luck before the game, including Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Katy Perry.
