The “mommy dog,” the stubborn little belly bump that refuses to go away after pregnancy, is a reality for many new moms. Losing weight during pregnancy is a process that happens gradually, but for some new moms it can be the slowest.
Even with healthy eating and regular activity, this stubborn abdominal lump can persist for months. Recently, she shared how she's been gently tackling the “dog mom” with three simple exercises.
Sonnalli Seygall's Postpartum Fitness Journey
Seygall, known for her role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, became a mother in 2024 after welcoming a baby girl. Recently, she shared a glimpse of her post-pregnancy fitness journey on Instagram.
In a video posted on January 29, she presented a mini workout challenge in which she encouraged other new mothers to try these exercises to help reduce stubborn belly bulge. “Dog mom gang, where are you? Try this mini challenge, tag me and let's do it together,” she captioned the post.
Mini training challenge
The first exercise is the inverted plank knee movement. To do this, you must lie down on a yoga mat and lift your body in a reverse plank position, keeping your face up. Pull up on one knee at a time. This exercise works the deep core muscles, along with the hamstrings, shoulders, and back. It should be done for 20 seconds.
Then he moved on to the second exercise, called the table hold. In this position, the body assumes the shape of a table while lying on the mat, with the core muscles kept tense. This exercise targets the abdominal muscles and is helpful in reducing lower abdominal fat. Hold this position for 20 seconds.
The third and final exercise was the overhead reach bridge, which he also performed for 20 seconds. In this movement, the hips are lifted off the mat while the arms are stretched overhead. This exercise helps strengthen the glutes and lower back.
Why is it challenging to lose postpartum weight?
“Many women experience postpartum weight retention (PPWR), which, if left unchecked, can lead to long-term weight gain and increased health risks such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” said dietitian Garima Goyal.
She explained that hormonal changes, changes in daily routine, and a slower metabolism can make weight loss more difficult.
