A four-month postponement of the 75th Emmy Awards due to actors' and writers' strikes last year resulted in a rarity in Hollywood programming: back-to-back awards shows.
The Critics Choice Awards, hosted by Chelsea Handler on Sunday in Los Angeles, could be seen as merely an opening act to Monday's Emmys. But because the awards recognize both film and television, film actors racing at full speed for Academy Award nominations are unlikely to miss the chance to go head-to-head. (The next class of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 23.)
