Common and Jennifer Hudson confirm romance: 'Very happy'

Common and Jennifer Hudson have a lot in… well, in common. They are Grammy, Emmy and Oscar winners. They grew up on the south side of Chicago. On Monday, both revealed that they are in a happy relationship.

“I am in a relationship that is [with] “One of the most beautiful people I have ever met in my life,” Common said during his appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson.” “She's smart, she loves God, she's got something really sensible about her.”

Common, 51, added that his boo is also an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winner and hosts her own talk show. Sounds familiar?

Hudson, who introduced her guest with a freestyle rap (“She got an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar; yeah, y'all are an EGO”), struggled to keep a straight face as her guest described her partner. Then Common turned the tables. “What's your love life like?” he asked.

“I'm dating too and I'm very happy,” he responded.

Common, who presented the talk show host with a large bouquet, went on to describe their relationship: “This relationship is a happy place for me… seeing her happy actually makes me very happy.”

Neither Common (real name Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr.) nor Hudson, 42, named their respective partners, but audiences in the know applauded the stars' cheeky interaction. The Illinois-born celebrities sparked dating rumors in 2022 when they were reportedly spotted dining at an exclusive Philadelphia restaurant.

Adding to the speculation, the “Breathe” co-stars were photographed together several times in 2023. Among their public appearances, the “Imagine” rapper and Hudson were seen walking in Chicago in May and sitting courtside at a game between the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers in December. Amid dating speculation, Hudson told TMZ in August that “the rumors say a lot of things,” adding that Common “is a beautiful man.”

During Common's appearance Monday on Hudson's talk show, the audience did more than just woo and cheer for the couple. “She's the one,” shouted one fan. Social media users also shared their thoughts on the couple, which now appears to be official.

“I need Jennifer Hudson and the common energy guy,” he wrote. X user @thebiggestbrit.

Other comments on social networks mentioned Common's previous high-profile relationships. Before Hudson, he was romantically linked to comedian Tiffany Haddish, singer Erykah Badu and “The Color Purple” star Taraji P. Henson.

Common, who was also on the show to promote his upcoming book “And Then We Rise,” ended the romantic chat by saying that he and his partner like to keep things private.

“But I want to recognize how wonderful she is,” he added.

“I feel the same way about my partner,” Hudson responded.
