Cheryl Hines questions Chelsea Handler's claims about house bought from RFK Jr

Cheryl Hines has responded to Chelsea Handler's comments about her purchase of a “disastrous” home from the actor and her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

During an episode of his podcast, Dear Chelsea, Earlier this month, the 51-year-old comedian recalled purchasing the $5.9 million Los Angeles home five years ago from Hines and the current U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Handler claimed the house had the “most toxic environment” and that while she's done several rounds of renovations, she hasn't actually been able to live there.

Hines has broken his silence, wondering why Handler is only now bringing up the claims about the house.

“You have to question the timing, because he bought this house five years ago and now he's complaining about it, which means, I don't know, he's getting a lot of sympathy from people,” he said. Curb your enthusiasm the student said in an excerpt from an upcoming episode of the Tomi Lahren is brave podcast, obtained by People.

“She's buying a $6 million house. And talking about how she feels cheated and that we tried to sell her a house that was, she says, 'toxic,' which also doesn't make sense. The story doesn't really hold up.”

She confirmed Handler's earlier claim that Hines and Kennedy wrote the comedian a note when she bought the Brentwood home.

“I wrote him a personal note when he moved in, just telling him how much we love the house. And I hope he has a beautiful life in this house. And if you need anything, call me. And I left you my number,” he added. “So, I don't know, if we were trying to dump a toxic house on him, I wouldn't have left my number.”

Hines accused Handler of simply “trying to get attention,” stating that it was “probably funny” for her to make fun of Kennedy.

“So what are you going to do? She's trying to get laughs, I guess, and some like it,” Hines concluded.

Earlier this month, Handler first made comments about the house she bought from Kennedy and Hines being “fucked up.”

“The idea that this guy is in charge of the health of our country when he didn't even have the proper foundation in his house,” he said on his podcast. According to Handler, a home inspector told her the property had “the most toxic environment” and she wouldn't be able to live there for at least two years.

“I'm not exaggerating any of this,” he continued. “It was a disaster, and I didn't know it because everything was, you know, under wraps.”

Handler said that after several rounds of renovations, it wasn't until the “last week of inspection” that he discovered another problem.

“They say, 'Oh, there's a unit.' There's been a little outdoor storage unit that's been there since I bought it. And they say, 'This is illegal,'” Handler added. “So now we have to eliminate [Kennedy’s] illegal *** bulls on my property. And I say, how come they didn't find this on the first inspection?

Handler addressed the note Haines left and asked if there was anything she and Kennedy could do for her. “I'm like, yeah, how about a damn base? That's something you could do for me,” he joked.

He also harshly criticized Kennedy and his career, calling him “the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this administration.”

Property records show the home, located in the Mandeville Canyon neighborhood, was purchased by Handler through a trust registered in the name of her sister Simone, according to Realtor.com. The final sale date is October 14, 2021. The house, built in 1937, has five bedrooms, a large backyard and a pool, according to braking.
