OMG, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are back together?
Although the famous exes split over a year ago, romance could be back on the horizon for the two artists. On Sunday, July 14, Cabello, 27, and Mendes, 25, were spotted together at the Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia in Miami.
The two not only brushed against each other, but sat together and chatted throughout the game inside Hard Rock Stadium. Pictures captured the former Fifth Harmony frontwoman and the “Treat You Better” hitmaker looking way too affectionate to be just friends, according to fans online.
Theories have been spreading among fans predicting that this could be the first step in a long-awaited reunion. However, a source who spoke to People confirmed that the former couple were there together “by chance.” In fact, Cabello was at the game with her father, Alejandro.
The Independent has contacted representatives of Cabello and Mendes.
The years of back-and-forth between Cabello and Mendes began in 2014 when they became friends and first collaborated on the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” But even in 2016, the close duo denied dating rumors that had been swirling during an appearance on The Late Show.
“Every time I make a move, she just throws me off,” Mendes told James Corden.
Cabello jokingly replied: “He puts me in the friend zone and calls me a boy!”
Over the next two years, hints of a relationship began to appear, with sweet messages posted on social media. Then, in 2019, Cabello and Mendes surprised the public by stepping out and posing together at the Grammys. That same year, the musical duo released their second single, “Señorita,” together.
Throughout 2019 and 2020, the couple appeared to be very close, spending quarantine together and welcoming their dog Tarzan. Engagement speculation surfaced in 2021, just before their first breakup.
Then, in 2023, sparks flew in the desert when Cabello and Mendes reunited at Coachella with a cheeky kiss. The next two months, the stars held hands in Venice, California, and New York City. By the time June rolled around, the second edition of “Shawnmila” was gone.
In March 2024, Cabello opened up to Alex Cooper on Call her daddy on why they ultimately decided to split up.
“It took less time for both of us to say, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t need to try so hard to make it work. Everything is OK,’” she said. “I will always care about him and love him. He’s a very kind and good person.”
“It is what it is. It was a great ride, it was a fun time.”
