Bryan Abasolo provided evidence in response to Rachel Lindsay's recent court appearance.

According to court documents obtained by PeopleThe 44-year-old chiropractor refutes claims that his ex-wife, 39, was “surprised or shocked” by his decision to file for divorce after four years of marriage.

“Rachel, walking into the room because I didn’t respond to your text as per your timeline and then raising your voice for not getting the immediate response you want is the type of one-sided controlling aspect of our relationship that has led us to this point,” he said in the text message. “My inability to communicate, as you’ve called it, is to avoid these types of reactions. It often feels like you must have what you want without regard to the mental state I’m in.”

He added: “I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text, but honestly, I don’t want to be the target of your verbal attacks anymore. I don’t want to be here any longer than necessary. I want to get some of my self-respect back.”

“Please let’s keep future communications in writing (paper, email, text) to avoid any additional friction as we move to the next step,” the text concluded. “We may talk in the future in the presence of a neutral party or something. Right now, I simply cannot do so. I have not been able to do so for a while. Respectfully. Good night.”

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Abasolo announced that he and Lindsay would be separating shortly after filing for divorce on January 2.

“After more than four years of marriage, Rachel and I have made the difficult decision to separate and start over,” he wrote at the time. “My parents have been married our entire lives and I am a family man, but sometimes loving yourself and your partner means letting go. I wanted you to hear it firsthand before the blogs start making up their own reality.”

“Please respect the spaces of our family and friends as we decide our next steps,” she concluded. “With all due respect, Bryan.”

Abasolo met and became engaged to Lindsay during her season of High school in 2017. Two years later, the couple married in August 2019. They have no children.

Lindsay first became part of The Bachelor franchise when he competed for the lead role of Nick Viall in season 21 of The BachelorShe was later announced as the franchise's first black actress. Bachelorette Party Leader in 2017 and at the time, he became the first black lead in the franchise's history.
