Britney Spears reacted to Blake Lively wearing her 2002 Versace dress at the premiere of her movie, Ends with us.
In an Instagram video, the 42-year-old pop star showed off an “updated version” of the iconic Versace dress she wore in 2002, noting that she likes it “a lot more” because the minidress shows off her legs. She danced to Outfield’s “Your Love” while wearing the sparkly minidress that was reminiscent of her previous style, except this one featured spaghetti straps and side cutouts.
“I LIKE HER SO MUCH MORE,” she initially wrote in the caption, but later edited it to give a sweet shoutout to Lively. “I’m not @blakelively but I like her.”
At the New York premiere of the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling novel Ends with usthe former Gossip Girl The star wore Spears' spring/summer Versace gown. The look was a nod to the film's flower shop plot, with the glittering designer dress incorporating floral embroidery as a reference to the protagonist Lily Bloom's passion for flowers.
Although the dress first appeared on the runway during Versace's spring/summer 2003 collection, Spears wore it in 2002.
Before hitting the red carpet, Lively shared a photo of Spears in the dress on Instagram.
“The ultimate queen who made us all want to shine, write and share our stories. Britney, all of us millennials have a story of a time or years where you made us want to shine and inspire wonder, with strength, joy and immense work,” she wrote. “Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. I am so excited for your biopic and for all you have to come.”
On the red carpet, Lively explained to Extra What it meant to her to wear the dress.
“This is Britney’s Versace dress. 2002. The butterfly dress. This dress meant a lot to me,” Lively explained to the outlet. “It meant a lot to me because of what she meant to me. She was someone who represented love, beauty, youth, hard work and determination.”
Lively added: “She was in touch with her sexuality and her softness, and she kind of represented everything… and I don’t know, Britney has always meant so much to me. I’ll always be a Britney fan.”
This isn't the first time the blonde bombshell has collaborated with Versace to bring spectacular looks to the red carpet; she and designer Donatella Versace have collaborated over the years on the Met Gala.
