A frustrated boyfriend made a hasty decision to expose his girlfriend for cheating on him on his birthday in front of all his friends and family.

Hoping to shed some light on the situation, the 27-year-old shared his side of the story on Reddit, offering details to readers on the popular confessional forum Am I The A**hole. However, after hearing his story, the internet can't decide if his actions were valid given the circumstances.

The author of the original post explained that he had been with his 26-year-old girlfriend for three years. As far as he knew, their relationship was great. They were planning their future, talking about moving in together and getting married. Everything between them seemed to be progressing in a healthy way until she started acting “weird.”

“She started showing some strange characteristics, like coming home late, being drunk, being secretive with her phone and making excuses not to spend time together,” he admitted. “For a week I tried to study and understand where all this was coming from and, to make matters worse, I started to think that I was the problem as to why she was behaving like this.”

In the midst of his mental spiral, the Reddit user searched for answers on his girlfriend's phone while she was sleeping. He went straight to the messages she had with her best friend because he knew that was where the “secrets” would be. To his dismay, he discovered that his girlfriend was having an affair with one of his friends.

Shocked, the Reddit user confronted his girlfriend and showed her the messages he had found that confirmed what he now knew. However, his girlfriend denied everything.

“He said they were just joking and that I was being paranoid,” he said. “I didn’t believe him, but I didn’t push it any further.”

Although he didn't insist, what he had seen weighed on his mind. Then, at her birthday party, everything came to a head. Not only were his girlfriend's friends and family there, but the friend who was supposedly having an affair with his girlfriend was also invited.

The Reddit writer admitted: “I told myself I could continue to suffer and pretend I was okay.

“After eating and dancing, it was time to talk,” she continued. “I decided to speak last, because I wanted to hear everyone praise our relationship and then prove them wrong.”

Without dropping the bomb right away, the Redditor spoke of loyalty and trust. In the end, he told everyone present that she was cheating on him. But not only that, the Reddit user took it upon himself to send screenshots of the message he had found to the entire birthday group chat.

The public was perplexed. The Redditor's girlfriend allegedly ran out crying. No one was happy with what he had done.

“Her family and friends attacked me for humiliating her on her precious day,” he said. “I left shortly after, feeling a mixture of anger and relief.”

Reading the Reddit user's story, viewers couldn't decide if he had done the right thing. The internet went wild and sparked a massive debate in the comments section.

Some argued that it would have been better if the groom had acted like the “bigger person,” while others thought he had done a good job defending himself.

One stubborn person commented: “I believe in being the best person, but sometimes I wonder who cares about being the best person, so I’m torn. Meh, he deserved it.”

“Maybe more people should be humiliated for their behavior. Maybe it will make them think twice about doing it again,” suggested one outspoken reader.

A third commented: “If you put all the blame on your ex and let it go, you are doing yourself a huge disservice.”

“That should have been dealt with privately. She may have cheated, but you are totally cruel,” argued one opponent.

But another supporter thought: “There are no rules for dealing with cheaters. It's a free for all.”
