Bhadrapada, the sixth month of the Hindu calendar, will begin on the next day of Sawan Purnima i.e. Rakshabandhan on 22nd August. The month of Bhadrapada is considered auspicious from the point of view of fasting, festivals and worship. The most important Hartalika Teej for women and the birthday of Bal Gopal, Lord Shri Krishna, are celebrated in this month. On the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, devotees observe fasting and worship and celebrate the birth anniversary of Laddoo Gopal in the evening. Apart from Lord Krishna, the birthdays of Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri’s son, Lord Ganesh ji i.e. Ganesh Chaturthi are also celebrated in this month. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for 10 days and ends with immersion on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. In a conversation with News 18 Hindi, Dr. Mrityunjay Tiwari spoke about the timing of the onset of Bhadrapada and the festivals celebrated this month.
